Library of Things Policy
The Library of Things is a collection of non-traditional items that supports Jamesburg Public Library’s mission to enhance, enrich, entertain, and educate the citizens of Jamesburg. Patrons who borrow a Thing agree to abide by the Jamesburg Public Library’s Library of Things lending policy below.
Borrowing Guidelines
- Library of Things items are limited to Jamesburg Public Library patrons in good standing who are 18 years old or older.
- Patrons must present their library cards when checking out Things and sign the Library of Things Lending Agreement.
- The loan period for items in the Library of Things collection is 14 days.
- Borrowing is limited to one Thing at a time per patron.
- Things may be renewed one time. Items on hold for another patron are not eligible for renewal.
- Things must be checked out from and returned directly to a staff member at the library’s circulation desk during the library’s hours of operation. Staff will inspect items prior to borrowing and again upon return.
- Library of Things materials may not be returned to the book drop or any other library location.
Fines, Fees, and Responsibilities
- The borrower is solely responsible for the Thing and will be billed for reasonable repair or replacement costs associated with damage or loss of Things and/or peripherals due to neglect or abuse.
- The Library has sole discretion in making these decisions. A list of replacement costs is maintained by the Library and is available upon request.
- Lost, damaged, or unusable materials can only be replaced by borrower’s payment of the full replacement cost. The Library cannot accept replacement items in lieu of payment.
- Materials that have gotten dirty while checked out should be cleaned before they are returned. The Library reserves the right to charge a $2.00 cleaning fee for materials that are returned dirty.
- Late fees for Things are $5.00 per day, not to exceed the cost of the item.
- This is a lending program only. Library staff are not available for supervision of or instruction on the use of Library of Things materials.
